Acorn Industries planning to Layoff hundreds

Hello Everyone,
Buck here reporting on a breaking news story that centers around Acorn Industries.  It seems that Chipmunk E. Moneybags, CEO of Acorn Industries has announced huge layoffs for his prime company Acorn Shipping.  When asked about the decision to cut 15% of his employees (totaling in 550 layoffs) he refused to comment.

Critics are outraged and the latest numbers show that Acorn Shipping has seen a rise in profits over the past six months.  The Shipping company alone is worth over $1.5 million.  Acorn Industries as a whole is the most profitable company in the country of New Pennsyork, raking in over $532 Billion annually.

The citizens of Animal-ville are outraged by the Chipmunks decision, and many employees are in fear of losing their jobs come January 1st.  One employee commented
"Working here [at Acorn Shipping] is the only way I can put food on the table, I got 5 pups still depending on me to bring them food."

This recent layoff is expected to cause a spike of un-employment rates in the city.  According to our financial department "The rates, Although typically low, only around 2.4% this could cause a rise up to 2.7% in January.  The last time we saw a jump that large was following the tax heights of former mayor, Chuck McWood.  That happened over 5 years ago, and didn't see a reverse until Harriman Bunny took over."

The experts are worried that this spike in the un-employment could lead to panic in the market place.  However only time will tell.

Acorn 101.9

Hello everyone,
This is Buck the Beaver here bringing you the latest updates about the new Acorn 101.9.  The newest member of the Acorn Industries family is a radio station located just on the edge of Animal-ville.  The new station is now officially under the control of Chipmunk E. Moneybags, CEO of Acorn Industries.  The radio community has been abuzz about what the new station will bring and so far the station has failed to impress.

The new station, dubbed Acorn 101.9, has switched from its former decades mix to an Adult Contemporary format.  The ratings have not come in, but most people seem to have switched off the station.  According to listeners the new format is limited, playing a small rotation of music.  In addition most listeners are complaining that their are too many commercials, most of them for Acorn Industries own products and services.

In the previous article about Acorn 101.9, we had discussed some of these very concerns.  It seems so far the the station is a bust, but there are some loyal listeners out there, and there rumors of Acorn 101.9 going to a Christmas mix around Thanksgiving.  According to AVCC corespondent, Kyle Flight, "Historically we see stations that move to Christmas formats do very well over the holidays, however, once January comes he might have to do better."

So only the future will tell if there will be an improvement to Acorn 101.9, but for right now we just have to wait and see.

New member to Acorn Industries

Hello Everyone,
This is Buck the Beaver bringing you another important announcement from Acorn Industries.

Acorn Industries has announced their plans to purchase 101.9 from the failing BTR company.  This announcement has come out early this morning, when Chipmunk E. Moneybags bought the radio station for $1.92 million.  When questioned on why the he purchased the radio station Mr. Moneybags responded, "I always wanted my own station to play my favorite music.  Plus this is a great opportunity to expand Acorn Industries."

Critics on the message boards are concerned that the chipmunk will destroy the station, and simply use it to promote his own business.  These concerns are not just talk, back in 2009 the chipmunk had taken over the advertising company, BigBobsBillboards, and used it to plaster his ads all over the city.  According to our Public Relations expert, Theodore Felts  "Buying that company was a good investment for Acorn Industries. He was able to find a company that was struggling and pay a one time fee to own all their space.  If he was to rent those monthly, he would be spending much more."

The future of our beloved radio station is still up for debate.  Although he made the purchase on the station he must still clear everything with the AVCC and we don't expect to see any real changes until early November.

Too much spamming

Dear editors of Animal-Ville Blog,
I would like to formally complain about the excessive amount of spamming, and advertising on this blog site.  I understand that this was a free blog intended to strengthen the community and inspire communication among the residents.  However, I feel recently there has been far too many posts promoting businesses and a lack of important content.
I would sincerely appreciate if you could either hire a blogger, or someone to review the posts and take down those that are spam.  If there continues to be this much spam I am afraid I, and many other citizens, will simply turn away from here.

Thank you,

Review on Mayor's Semi-Annual Speech

Last Night the Mayor of Animal-Ville made his semi-annual speech on the current affairs of the city.  His speech was mostly well received, with no major outcries or interruptions as with last June's Speech.  (For those who don't remember that was when Chipmunk E. Moneybags attempted to harm the mayor with a paint-ball gun.)  During the speech the mayor made some major points, which I will summarize below:

- The city is doing financially well, the budget will only increase by 1.3% and no major funding cuts will be required.  The mayor did mention that in order to accommodate the slight increase in needs there will be fewer expansion projects like we saw over the past year.  However, the promise to freeze taxes and retain the same funding to all public services kept citizens very calm.

- The following 6 months will see only two projects.  The city will contain expanding its belt way system.  The projects completed in October of last year, ended with the Bark-Bar Expressway.  Although that project was completed, "the interchange with the Animal-Ville Bypass was found to be a further cause of traffic".  The mayor and his traffic adviser evaluated the ramps will be expanding them beginning in mid-March to Early-April.  The second project includes new street lights to be installed throughout the city.  The mayor pointed out that the new lights will be LED and save the city money in utility costs while providing brighter lighting on the streets and sidewalks.

- The mayor spent little time reviewing the past six-months.  He claimed that "most citizens have already read the reviews printed on-line and in the news-papers".  He made a quick summary of the positive events, including the new fire-house and the record breaking amount of donations.

- The bunny did little to address the issue of increased crime in the city.  His only comment was, "to combat the small increase in crime we will be training our police force better, and making their patrols more efficient.  After taking these steps, we will evaluate the change in crime rates from now and June.  At that point, we will have fully optimized our forces.  If more actions are required they will be taken then."  Many citizens are criticizing the mayor for not taking action sooner.  They also feel that he is not doing enough to solve the problem.

Overall the speech was well received, and the mayor seemed to hit on most of the major concerns.  A full copy of his speech will be made available on-line.
